Self Declaration of Environmental Commitment for Telford Laundry Ltd
We have 42 staff providing a laundry and linen hire service to hospitality clients. We operate from a 10,000 sq ft factory using 50plus cubic meters of water per day and 22,600 litres of gas oil. We operate 7 diesel vehicles of which 2 are 7.5 tonnes.
We have identified and comply with all environmental legislation relevant to our business activities, are committed to preventing pollution and reducing our impact on the environment by:
- Recycling numerous waste streams including paper, plastic containers, metals, computers, monitors, textiles, electrical equipment, cooking oil and batteries.
- Calculating our carbon footprint.
- Reducing energy consumption by turning electrical equipment off when not in use, using sleep features, using laptops rather than desktops, purchasing lower energy replacement equipment, putting timers on heaters and using movement sensors for controlling lighting.
- Monitoring car fuel consumption, servicing and maintaining vehicles on a regular basis, using hybrid biofuel vehicles while using public transport where possible.
- Monitoring water use and using recycled grey water.
- Reducing resource use by printing double sided and two pages for draft reports and buying recycled packaging and using eBay and Freecycle where possible.
- Using eco-friendly products including biodegradable cleaning products.
- Regularly supporting local charities and events and encouraging staff to develop themselves through education, training and voluntary work.
- Carrying out audits of suppliers to demonstrate their environmental credentials.
- Selling or giving away unwanted equipment or redundant supplies.
- Using a purchasing policy that considers all environmental issues in the decision making process and considering Life Cycle Impacts when designing and purchasing equipment.
Although we are already demonstrating a significant reduction in our environmental impacts, over the next 12 months we are also committed to:
- Continuing to monitor and reduce our environmental impact and work to improve our 4 star rating.
- Developing the range of materials recycled, to include plastic film and fluorescent lamps.
- Improving energy efficiency by using energy efficient bulbs and insulating our building and roof spaces.
- Sourcing a renewable energy provider and offsetting our carbon.
- Using water saving devices in toilets and collecting rainwater for vehicle washing.
- Sourcing eco-friendly products that have not been tested on animals.
